About Us

Passion

Reptiles have always held a special place in my heart; in my late teens, I set up 'Reptile's Rest', aiming to rescue and rehome animals in need; sadly, my fundraising skills were not on the same level as my ambition. Even with a significant amount of borrowed money from Mum and a highly understanding exotic vet who was happy to teach me to administer medications and manage many common problems at home, it was clear that it wouldn't be sustainable. I stopped taking in any more animals and started studying for a herpetology qualification - it was a short course, just 20 credits at HE Level 1, but this led to a job with a well-established reptile rescue for a few years with the opportunity to learn aggressive snake handling, crocodilian handling and venomous snake handling.

Education

After leaving the rescue, I made the decision to invest in my education as a mature student. I started with a National Diploma in Animal Management and then moved on to university. This journey has been invaluable, leading me to earn a DipHE in Biology with a Wildlife Ecology and Behaviour focus, and I'm currently studying the final year of a BSc part-time with the Open University.

Welfare

Animal welfare is of the utmost importance to me personally. I invest a significant amount of time and money to ensure the range of animals I share my life with are as healthy and happy as possible.  All the snakes here are housed in enclosures that allow them to stretch out fully, well stocked with enrichments and hides to support their growth and development.
